FALL
OF CASTRO

FALL OF CASTRO acrylic/linen 12" X 60"
2005
Some
five years earlier I had started two small paintings
from television of the Pope's historical visit to Cuba
with Castro. Through the years I worked on them, and
put them aside, as I do. Suddenly the time seemed right.
It occurred to me that the LIVE graphic across the screen
might not be true for both subjects at a later date,
and so I decided to finish the works. While I worked
on these paintings, the news: Castro fell down and broke
his arm and leg after delivering a speech to art instructors!
Immediately I started a new painting, The Fall of Castro.
It wasn't about politics for me, I just wanted to see
what it would look like.
